Education and Workforce Readiness

Education is important and Walker County is fortunate to have excellent school systems. For primary and secondary education, Jasper City Schools, Walker County Schools, and Sumiton Christian School.

Jasper City Schools serves the City of Jasper. Their mission is to inspire students to achieve academic excellence and make positive contributions to our interconnected community and world. Jasper City Schools serves grades K – 12.

Jasper City Schools offers athletics, chorale, band, theater and culinary programs which enrich students with opportunities to learn, grow, belong and shine. S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs help prepare students for college and career. The new Jasper High School was built for growth. Jasper and Walker County are positioned for growth as a hub in our state, geographically placed with the I-22 interstate connecting Memphis to Birmingham to Atlanta.

Walker County Schools serve all of Walker County with the exception of the city of Jasper. Serving grades K – 12, there are 5 high schools, 3 junior high schools, 3 middle schools, 5 elementary schools, 1 center of technology and 1 alternative school. Walker County Schools are a part of the “Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child” model.

Sumiton Christian School offers a Christ centered approach to education, based upon God’s Word as the foundation for all learning. Students gain knowledge through a Christ-centered education which will guide them into a Christ centered life. In all academic areas, teachers motivate students to strive for excellence. Sumiton Christian School is an AISA Blue Ribbon School. Awarded by the Alabama Independent School Association, a Blue Ribbon school exemplifies excellence in teaching, student performance, school life and school and community interaction. Sumiton Christian School serves grades K – 12.

Bevill State Community College provides university parallel and applied technology educational opportunities to over one-quarter million people in a seven county area. With a service area that spans over 4,600 square miles, from the Birmingham city limits to the Mississippi state line.
